The hair lightening stages refer to the spectrum of colors, from darkest to lightest, that your hair can achieve through toning, bleaching, and color mixing. Hair typically bleaches in 7 to 10 levels. From color mixing, bleaching, developing, toning and so on, there is a lot that goes into achieving the right color. Gently massage some purple shampoo onto your scalp and hair until it forms a rich lather. Make sure to follow instructions on the product to determine how long your shampoo should sit. Usually, it’s about 5 minutes. Rinse thoroughly. If your hair turns completely orange, you’ll need to use a blue toner or blue shampoo. Once you have finished the application, allow your roots to lighten up to be slightly lighter than the rest of your hair. Rinse the bleach out, shampoo thoroughly to remove all remaining traces, and then move onto the toning stage, which will take your yellow roots from bright yellow to a gorgeous shade of blonde. Rinse your hair thoroughly with cold water. Repeat the process on the other front strands. Once you’ve bleached all of the front strands, move on to the back strands. Make sure to bleach the strands at the very top of your head last, as they’re the lightest. Leave the bleach on for the recommended amount of time. When bleaching your hair, it’s important not to overdo it. Be sure to follow the instructions on the bleach carefully, and don’t leave the bleach in your hair for longer than recommended. 3. Condition, condition, condition. After bleaching your hair, it’s essential to use a good quality conditioning treatment. When sectioning, separate the hair into 4 large separate areas. Tie up 3 areas and leave one down. That is the area where you are going to bleach first. Section this part of the hair finely. Your aim is to get a really consistent penetration of the bleach mixture. You can use foils at the first stage. Henna is a plant-based dye that can give hair a reddish tint. Mix henna powder with a mildly acidic liquid like lemon juice to form a paste. Then, apply it evenly to your hair and leave it on under a shower cap for several hours. This method imparts a natural red hue to black hair without chemical dyes. Move on to the next subsection, and apply the dye in the same way. Once that entire section of your hair is covered in dye, clip it up and move onto the next section. Once all of your hair is covered, pop on that shower cap, and allow it to process for 20 minutes or so. Shu Uemura Urban Moisture Hydro-Nourishing Treatment. $69 at Sephora $52 at Walmart.
